![]() What I am going to do though next time is cut the hard plastic on the intake so I can run the hose longer and keep the coupling underwater, so that if there is any small air gaps, its still pulling in water instead of air but I already cut my hose, so until I buy a new one, it seems to be fine, but I rather have the coupling underwater fully. Other than that, it was easy to setup and get going and running good. I was thinking of either double bagging the baskets to fill them in more or filling them with some small-medium aquarium rock I'm not using maybe instead? Anyone got any good media mix suggestion for the 305? Only thing I found was the bags don't exactly fit in the basket, and leave some gaps. I took the charcoal and the bio bags from my HOB filter and put them in the Fluval, so hopefully that will jumpstart it a bit. ![]() I got two large turtles in there (need to expand or setup two tanks) so I know I'll probably have to do some water changes and bit more filter maintenance, but its better than the two small underwater filters I had going and the HOB filter. Still foggy but cleaning it up pretty nice. Im prettty sire I could make one of those for about 20 bucks without the pump.I just picked up a Fluval 305 brand new for half price, guess the guys tank got smashed before he got around to hooking it up and got it going in my 55gal. Whats inside of there that seperates it from a 5 gallon bucket with a pump on top of it with some pipe fittings on it. Last oppinion I guess to buy either Eheim or Fluval is just a matter of taste. When I ever need a new big canister Filter, I always would go for the Eheim Pro III :hmm3grin2orange: biut also I would have a DIY cabinet (more space) with a much bigger tank. One advantage of the FX5 is a big one: it would fit into my cabinet, the 2260 has been too high, even the 2250 is pretty big. I know folks with 20 year old Eheims which run like hell. With Eheim its really solid quality and you can buy spare parts I dunno, about 20 years or so after the series has run out. But cleaning it, whow its sheer fun (if filter cleaning can be called that). The Fluval FX series features a multi-functional utility valve. ![]() But on the other hand, it took me ages to set up my Fluval 204 filter. Only water and power on and the filter starts to pump. In this case the Fluval is more practical, at least the Fluval 104 - 404 series. Great filter, but when it comes to cleaning, its just a "classical" one. I got an Eheim 2250, the smaller brother of the big Eheim2260. ![]()
